Xero reporting feature requests: what Xero has said (October 2026)

The most-voted ideas in the Reports & tax forum of Xero's Product Ideas board, their status, what Xero last said and any workaround. Checked 19 October 2026.

Xero's Product Ideas board is where users ask for features and vote on them. The Reports & tax forum alone holds 892 ideas, 528 of them about reporting. This page collects 20 of the most-voted reporting ideas, what Xero last said about each one, and what people do in the meantime. We read every idea page on 19 October 2026; vote counts and statuses change, so follow the links for the latest.

Reportpost is independent and not affiliated with Xero. Quotes are from Xero staff replies on the public board.

What's actually being worked on

Most of the big reporting requests have a reply that boils down to not planned. A handful are moving:

  • Emailing and scheduling reports. In May 2026 Xero said its reporting team is "exploring ways to email & auto-schedule reports directly from Xero" and invited users to interviews about early concepts. Status: In discovery.
  • Report access by user role. Xero is "actively testing how reports could be grouped and accessed" so users can be given specific reports (November 2025). Status: In development.
  • Payment performance reports. A "Supplier days to pay detail" report comes first; Xero says customer payment performance reports follow once that's rolled out. Status: Accepted (since July 2026).
  • More ways to customise reports. Xero's reporting team is "exploring new ways to customise reports (e.g. add missing fields, pivot tables)" (October 2026). Status: In discovery.
  • Sorting by account code. A quick sort option on the Trial Balance, Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss is in development (September 2026).

Xero hasn't given a release date for any of these.

What the statuses mean

The labels don't always mean what they sound like. Accepted often means Xero agrees it's a good idea but hasn't scheduled it: on one Accepted idea Xero wrote "This is an idea we'd like to develop, but isn't currently on the roadmap", and the consolidation idea is Accepted although Xero says consolidated reporting "is not currently planned". Not in pipeline means no plans. In discovery means the team is researching the problem, and In development means work has started. Gaining Support means Xero wants more votes before deciding; ideas with no label show as "submitted" on the board.

We left out a livestock report template and folded near-duplicates into related ideas.

Each idea, Xero's answer and the workaround

1. Automatic generation and emailing of reports (787 votes)

The most-voted reporting idea, first posted in 2014: send reports such as the Profit and Loss or Aged Receivables by email on a schedule. Xero moved it to In discovery in May 2026 and invited users to interviews on early concepts; the slots were full by 25 May. Workaround: run and export the reports by hand each period, or use an app that sends them on a schedule. Reportpost is one (we build it); see how to schedule Xero reports and the tools that do it.

2. Audit trail report (593 votes)

A report of every change made in an organisation. Xero points to the existing Journal Report and says "providing a complete audit trail of every single event and change within an organisation is not in our plans" (December 2025). Workaround: the Journal Report, plus the history and notes on each transaction.

3. Customer payment performance and days late (358 votes)

Payment dates and how many days late each customer paid. Xero is building a supplier-side "days to pay" report first and says it will then "begin work on additional reports for the Sales side with customer payment performance" (July 2026). The related idea "Show average days to pay by customer" (224 votes) got the same answer. Xero also notes that each contact record shows the customer's average days to pay, and the Receivable Invoice Summary has a "Last Payment Date" column you can add (January 2024). Workaround: the Aged Receivables reports show who is late now, though not payment history; see the Xero debtors report.

4. Give users access to specific reports (348 votes)

Let a user see some reports without seeing everything. Xero is testing how reports could be grouped for role-based access (November 2025). Workaround: rather than giving someone a Xero login, send them just the reports they need as PDF or Excel, by hand or on a schedule.

5. Add any report to report templates (306 votes)

Report templates in Xero HQ only take some reports; Xero suggests building packs at the client level. Xero has no plans to open them to every report, but says "We have unlocked the ability to add client-specific custom reports to Adviser packs" (October 2025). Workaround: Adviser packs if you're an adviser; otherwise export the extra reports and join them into one PDF, for example with our free PDF combiner. More in Xero report packs.

6. File attachment report (300 votes)

A report listing which transactions have files attached. Xero: "we don't have any plans for building a report of this nature right now" (July 2025). A related idea, a report of transactions without receipts attached (65 votes), isn't on the roadmap either. Xero points to the account transactions view in bank reconciliation and the Invoices and Bills lists, which show attachments.

7. Consolidate multiple Xero organisations (278 votes)

One set of reports across several organisations, first asked for in 2012. Xero: "work on developing consolidated reporting is not currently planned", and it points to apps (July 2025). Workaround: an app, an Excel workbook, or tracking categories inside one organisation; see Xero consolidated reporting.

8. Show the line description in Account Transactions (272 votes)

Xero: "there are no plans at this stage to change the behaviour of this report" (November 2025), and explains what each account type shows today. Workaround: run the report for the line's account code, or add the "Related account" column (Xero, April 2024).

9. A report of repeating invoices (269 votes)

Xero has "no work currently planned to develop a specific repeating invoices report" (July 2025) and suggests the Receivable Invoice Detail report (which only lists invoices already created from a repeating template), the short-term cash flow in Analytics Plus, or an app.

10. Quantity column on reports (261 votes)

Not planned for reports in general (October 2025); Xero lists the reports that already show quantities. A related idea for quantities and unit price in Account Transactions (225 votes) is In discovery as part of Xero's wider look at report customisation.

11. Custom layouts in Budget Manager (230 votes)

Make budgets follow your custom Profit and Loss layout. Xero: "we don't have immediate plans for developing this tool" (July 2025). Workaround: export the Budget Variance report and regroup it in a spreadsheet. Apps that send a budget vs actual report, ours included, use Xero's standard account list, not your custom layout.

12. Budgets for Balance Sheet accounts (225 votes)

Xero: "Right now, building this feature isn't in our plans" (July 2025). Its suggested workaround is to export to a spreadsheet.

13. Copy reports between practices and organisations (220 votes)

For Xero HQ users. Not planned in the near term, according to Xero's July 2025 reply.

14. Your own report code structure (207 votes)

Not offered. Xero suggests mapping several accounts to the same report code to group them (July 2025).

15. Budgets by tracking category that roll up to the main budget (175 votes)

Xero: "it isn't on our immediate roadmap to build right now" (July 2025); it suggests apps for tracking budget roll-ups. See also Xero reports by tracking category.

16. Choose portrait or landscape (168 votes)

Xero switches orientation automatically by column width and has no plans for a manual option (March 2025). If orientation differs between users, Xero suggests checking printer fit settings.

17. Add the client's logo to reports (154 votes)

Xero says it has no plans to develop this right now (July 2025). Workaround: put a branded cover page in front of the pack. Our free cover page maker builds one with a logo, and Reportpost (ours) can put a cover page with your logo on scheduled PDF packs.

18. Indirect method cash flow statement (142 votes)

Xero's standard Statement of Cash Flows uses the direct method; no official reply on this idea. Workaround: build it in a spreadsheet from the Profit and Loss and two Balance Sheets, or have Reportpost (ours) build it from your Xero figures. More in Xero cash flow reports.

19. Contact export with credit limits and terms (132 votes)

Accepted, but in Xero's words "an idea we'd like to develop, but isn't currently on the roadmap" (October 2025). Xero notes the Aged Receivables Summary covers part of it (it can show a Credit Limit column).

20. Custom payroll reports (129 votes)

Xero: "these improvements are not in our current pipeline" (January 2026). Xero notes payroll reports already allow some column, filter and layout changes.

Smaller ones where Xero points to something that exists

  • Longer short-term cash flow forecasts (56 votes): Xero won't extend the old tool but says "With Cash Flow Manager, you can extend your forecast out to 180 days" (July 2026).
  • Original currency on aged payables (113 votes): aged reports run in your base currency, but the Payable and Receivable summary and detail reports can show an "Original currency" column (June 2025).
  • Filter the Profit and Loss by contact (66 votes): not roadmapped; Xero points to the Income and Expenses by Contact report (December 2025).

How to get an idea moving

Xero's replies often ask people to vote and to describe how they'd use the feature, and its teams recruit interviewees from the threads, as happened with scheduled reports. A short comment with a concrete example does more than "+1". You need a Xero login to vote or comment.
