Fathom and Reportpost both connect to Xero and both can send reports on a schedule, but they're built for different jobs. Fathom is an analysis and management reporting platform. Reportpost is a simple way to email Xero's standard reports to people every week or month. We make Reportpost, so read this with that in mind; Fathom details come from Fathom's pricing page and its help article on scheduled reports, checked in October 2026.

How Fathom's scheduled reports work
In Fathom you build a custom report template, then set a schedule that creates the report a chosen number of days after each month, quarter or financial year ends. Fathom then emails the users in the roles you choose (for example Everybody or Admins only). Its help centre says Fathom doesn't email the report as a PDF, for security reasons, so recipients log in to read or download it. Schedules only cover completed periods, so a scheduled report can't be month-to-date.
That suits advisors who want clients inside Fathom, looking at an interactive report with KPIs and commentary.
How Reportpost works
You connect Xero (read-only), pick reports from Xero's standard set, choose the period, the day and the recipients, and Reportpost emails the files at that time. The email body lists headline figures, such as net profit or the total overdue, and the attachments are ordinary PDF, Excel or CSV files anyone can open. There are no templates to design and no logins for recipients.
Which one fits
- Choose Fathom if you want analysis: KPIs, trends and custom report layouts, and you're happy for readers to log in.
- Choose Reportpost if the standard Xero reports are enough and you want them to land in inboxes as files: directors who'd rather not log in to another app, a bank that wants the aged receivables monthly, or clients who just want the PDF.
The two can work side by side: Fathom for the quarterly advisory meeting, and Reportpost for the routine monthly pack and weekly debtors list.
